Remember a few weeks ago when I shared a table that I got from one of Big Daddy’s buddies? Well there were several pieces of furniture in that little deal …… and ALL of them had excellent bones. Plus they all were in really good shape which is a luxury for me.
Today’s victim :
A Big Ol’ Pine chest of drawers:)
This thing has my name written all over it.
Candle was on the top?
Not a problem.
Classic lines never do me wrong. I try my best to stick to that when it comes to design. The only thing that really dated this piece was those pulls and maybe the way the trim was sort of beveled around the top but I had a plan for that.
So here’s what my plan was :)))
I used what is probably my favorite darker gray, General Finishes Queensland Gray. This stuff is such a deep rich gray plus it covers up a multitude of sins.
The hardware is is another story.
I have been hanging on to these gray ceramic drop pulls forever. I found them at Marshals over a year ago. I only had four so I was really biding my time until I was working on just the right piece for them.
It was worth the wait!
Once I decided to use them on this chest I ordered the antique brass bail pulls from Dlawless Hardware.
$.99 EACH.
I can’t make this stuff up 🙂
So my plan for that top actually worked out.
I had planed to refinish that top all along but I really didn’t want to call any more attention to that beveled molding around the top. So as I was painting the body of the chest I just painted out the molding as well not really being too or at all neat about it. I sanded the old finish off last.
That’s how I got that crisp clean edge.
I am really pleased with the effect!
I finished it off with Annie Sloan Dark wax.
This really is a big substantial piece.
Have a great weekend!

That chest…. NEEDED to be painted! It looks a million times better. The color is perfect – and I love those pulls on the top drawers. Really stunning!
