I have several alerts set on Facebook Marketplace.
Some are pretty specific, like Broyhill Dresser or Antique Desk. But I also have a general one set, and Lord is it a catch all.
Table
I mean Facebook sends me messages about everything coming and going. It was a complete and total nuisance at first. I would get everything from kids play tables to crap near Table Rock State Park. Eventually I learned to sift through those quickly and get to the good stuff 🙂
I could not stop thinking about those legs…….and what appeared to be a hoof at the bottom of them. So off I drove all the way to Brevard. The nice man who was selling this piece tried to sell me everything in their house though. Alas, this table is BIG and I had no extra room in. my Jeep:((( What struck me as weird upon my first real look at this piece as I walked in to his garage was the finish. It was quite odd. Had I known that it was some sort of painted (faux wood or faux antiquing of faux something) finish, I would have most assuredly kept walking. So it took me several days to name and make friends with the fact that I screwed up on this one. So to make myself fell better, I got out some paint and my paintbrush……….
Yep.
The feet are little hoofs.
Apparently it’s a thing, a French thing. God bless whoever invented Google
I have been eyeballing these rusty wire cup pulls at Hobby Lobby forever. They only had two of them in that particular bin so I grabbed them up. Lucky for me I had just dragged home something that only need two pulls, once I filled and and sanded down the single knob hole it had when I picked it up. I am crazy about them, rust and all! On this particular library table they actually look quite lacy.
I chose General Finished Bone White Chalk Paint for this one and when all was said and done it took 3 coats of the stuff to cover up all the faux whatever finish. Tedious, but in the end well worth it.
The lamp base I found at Goodwill. It is actually part of a pair. They are painted Bone White as well. The cute burlap shades I found at Ross for $6 each.
I had to really work for this top. I sanded it down and refinish it twice. That had never happened to me. I am pretty sure the people who made it never meant for it to be the natural finish. My second attempt was much better.
I love a good stack of old books, especially in a pretty color:)))
I hauled this library table down to my shop yesterday afternoon.
The second I cleared the entrance of Sweeten Creek Antiques, the sky opened up.
This rain is killing me. The weekend looks more promising though. Good thing, as I have four other pieces of furniture just waiting on the tops to be sanded down.

It looks great, you did a wonderful job, so don’t feel that you messed up on the purchase.
