Sometimes I make rash decisions…….still.
After years of refinishing furniture I have not lost the excitement I feel when I see a gem on Facebook Marketplace or on the curb on trash day. It is a rush for sure. It is times like these that can bite me square in the hind end, and have. More times than I care to admit.
This is one of those cases.
I found this petite little desk on FB Marketplace and it was on.
The young lady selling it was moving and when I got to her home there were several other folks already there looking at her furniture, so I waited patiently for my turn to speak with her about this desk. As I waited in the poorly lit garage I swear to y’all I heard her trying to sell the desk right right out from under me and I was already taking all the drawers out of it in preparation to load it in to my Jeep. It was dirt cheap and thankfully the other folks declined it. But in my aggravation about the conversation I could hear upstairs, I really didn’t look the desk over very well.
Check out the back right edge of the top.
You are looking at a pretty big piece of veneer that is missing from the top of this deck.
Poop.
Alas, I still loved the lines and the small scale of the piece, believe it or not. Plus, I already had plans for this one:)
I have been dying to paint another pink piece ever since that child sized chest of drawers I painted about a month ago. I gotta tell y’all the response down at my shop was overwhelmingly positive. I think that pink chest sold in four days :). This is Country Chic paint. The color is called Confetti.
It’s a perfect pale baby pink.
I did have a bit of a tough time deciding on knobs for this one. Initially I ordered a darker pink flower knob for this desk. When they got here the just didn’t do a thing for the piece.
These , I think were meant for a little pink desk!
The top turned out well after a good sanding and application of Dark Wax.
Even that messed up corner.
I did sand the the edged down until it was pretty close to level. That way the wax wouldn’t settle in to a sharp line and accentuate the flaw even more.
Lord, my peonies!
Aren’t these knobs sweet?
They are smaller scale than the usual melon or pumpkin knobs and to my surprise, plastic. They are pretty little things, perfect for a pink child’s piece of furniture. They are also affordable, 20 of them for under $11!
Above is an affiliated link to the knobs.
You purchase allows us to make a small commission but your cost stays the same.
