Life is funny sometimes.
It’s funny what can trigger memories. For me it is almost always music. I can hear Tchaikovski’s Peter and The Wolf and I am 8 years old watching the animated movie in the 4th grade. I can hear anything from the ’80’s and recall everything from my misspent youth.
Then there is color.
Color is a completely different ballgame…..
This one was so unbelievably convenient ya’ll.
I was sitting in Friday late afternoon bumper-to-bumper traffic, exactly two SUV lengths from the turn in to my neighborhood Goodwill. I do not normally work my day job on Fridays so I was extra tired and extra impatient. So I am sitting there in my Jeep thinking if that vehicle in front of me will just move the length of my bumper I am outa this mess for a while……..
And it happened :0
They had the most astronomical amount of furniture I have ever seen at that particular Goodwill. Most of it was A. Out of my budget and B. All to Hell. I was looking for something on the smaller side like a side table or lamps, something I could completly finish in my shortened weekend. No luck. As I was leaning toward the All To Hell pile I found this child size chest of drawers! And it was in really decent shape with all of it’s original hardware. The only thing I had to fix on it was a missing drawer runner on the bottom drawer ( with a 14″ furring strip I has cut at Lowe’s fro under $3). The only thing Big Daddy had to fix was to put two longer wood screws in the top to secure it to the base (Free because I went and dung them outa my stash in The Hell Hole!)
When I finally got it home I think I had all of about 15 minutes until the pouring rain was to begin so I took out all of the drawers and stored them in the garage, grabbed my orbital sander took what was left of the original finish right off.
Now I have been looking at all the lovely pink pieces in Painted Furniture Land for some time now. I just had not found a piece of furniture that fit the color, if that makes any sense at all. So Saturday morning I hit the ground on a mission find the perfect, baby pink, and here’s the super hard part…….without putting on actual clothes or actually leaving my house.
You know, normal Paige weekend stuff.
Ya’ll this thing is so sweet!
I mixed a lot of GF Bone white with about 3 tablespoons of GF Empire Gray and then added drops of Holiday Red until I had a very pale and soft pink. I was so excited with my new color that I painted and entire drawer and waited and sat and had a cup of coffee while the new paint color dried……just to be sure.
Big Daddy walked in to the room and declare it mauve. Damn him.
So I added more Bone White…….
Turns out pink is a hard color to photograph.
My pink is a very soft baby pink, similar to a pair of pink child’s ballet slippers I have in my shop. When I came across them last Summer I immediately thought of the only ballerina I have ever known. My very dear friend Lydia, who I have know since I was 15 years old was a ballerina for years. She is beautiful, fair and blonde. This pink remind me of her……. and our not so misspent youth 🙂
Have a great week!
Paige

Beautiful ! It will make whomever purchase it very happy…the pink makes a person smile. Would look sweet in a baby girl’s nursery and could also look nice in a young lady’s bedroom! The possibilities are numerous! Once again a job well done! You rock!
