A couple weeks ago I got a Facebook message from a high school friend about a piece of furniture she was ready to unload. So I asked for a picture just to see what I was getting myself in to and to make sure it was in my wheelhouse in terms of taste and style. The picture was a garage much like my own. There were lots of thing in the picture, but I could make out a bit of the desk’s front and what appeared to be a leg……..
The legs get me every time.
This is actually after I got it home and in to my garage.
Look ya’ll!!! You can actually see the floor!
I walked around this thing every day for over a week trying to get a vibe off it, in terms of color. White over white would have been the easiest option, but it’s Spring y’all.
I want a fun but subtle Spring color .
Give me some Duck Egg any day.
I dug there pulls out go my hoard.
They are quite petite and I have to say I love the on this little desk.
Now this top was interesting.
Apparently my friend and her husband cut the original top off. I honestly can not imagine how. My limited understand is that the veneer was a wreck. So what I had to deal with was the crapwood underneath.
No bad……for crapwood?
The top came out way better than I expected. I just gave the top a light sanding with my orbital and an already used 80 grit sanding disk. The stain is just my standard Dark Wax. I figured if it looked awful I could just paint over it but it came out pretty cool! I love all the dings and imperfections it.
I took these photos late in the evening as the light was fading and soft. The the sun went down I sat on the porch with a glass of good wine and thought about all of the time my friend Susan had spent at the childhood desk….. what she wrote……what she read. She told me when I drove over to her home to pick up the desk that a lot of important decisions were made at that little desk. So I texted her a few pictures and waited. Then I texted, ‘Would you like your desk back now?”
She declined but seemed to be really happy with my interpretation of her little desk :)))
<huge relief>
Ya’ll I gotta tell you about these hydrangea!
Run to the Walmart…… they are $6 a pot and the color is amazing!
Happy Easter!
