I have been moving in a very particular direction lately with the decor of our home. I am finding that I really enjoy a more neutral home. It kinda dawned on me over Christmas . Our living was decorated with lots of red while the dining room was more neutral and natural. Now I love me some red at Christmas but when the tree and all of the decorations were packed up I did not miss the brighter colors. I was actually more at ease with just the grays, browns and blacks that have been the foundation of or living room for a few years now. I had been on the lookout for a new rug for this room for a few months, something a bit less color specific than the blue floral one that we have had for a while. You know that saying, ‘No good story ever started with a salad’? Well, lots of good stories on this blog start with, ‘So I was in Ross the other day and….’
I walked out with this 🙂
We love it!
And let me just tell y’all that it takes Big Daddy some time to bond with new stuff that I bring in to our home. I’m pretty sure all it took to suck him in on this rug was to walk across it with bare feet. It is a very soft, plush rug. Fact of business, when I spotted it in their huge Bin O’ Rugs I immediately ran my hand across it and thought to myself,
‘I can’t afford this one.’
A pleasant surprise:)
The actual show was watching me trying to navigate the front door to the place while carrying that big rug and then cramming it in to my Jeep, all by myself. It really must have been something because a nice lady stopped to help me thank God!
Now I go in to Ross often and most of time I leave without finding anything. It is the kind of store that’s inventory is quite limited and changes often so frequent trips in are eventually worth it. Plus there are two pretty close to me, one near my work and one right by my house. It has also come to be my #1 source for lamp shades as well.
The chair was up in our bedroom.
I moved it downstairs about a week ago and am enjoying the change, plus it look good with the rug:)
Thanks for stopping in!

Ww, what a beautiful, amazing find. I love this rug, and the price. It color is perfect with your fabulous furniture. I agree, it goes well with the chair you brought down from your upstairs.

I absolutely love the new rug. I too, am beginning to embrace the black, taupe and cream color scheme in my entire house. I love most of your furniture makeovers (Not to crazy about all the turquoise/teal items). I loved the navy hutch you did recently. Can you suggest a good linen/taupe/neutral color for a corner hutch? I am an antique dealer and used to strip and refinish loads of furniture. But I had to give up all of that hard work and smelly, toxic chemicals about three years ago when I was diagnosed with lupus. I noticed that you also mentioned that your hands ache at times. I too, have that problem. I trust your judgment and your good taste. I would certainly appreciate your suggestions for good quality, non-toxic, low VOC paints and final finishes.

I love the designs on that rug & how well the colors fit into your living room. You are a brave woman to conquer that rug on your own, or else you wanted it THAT bad!! lol And the sticker price was amazing, too!!

I have been inspired by your blog….I saw a chest in the background of the post about the rug from Ross and I saw the old
trunk you painted white in another post. I have a dresser/chest like yours and also a similar old trunk. I am planning to
drag the dresser and the trunk from the basement (or rather have my husband do it) and use the trunk on my screened porch
and the dresser somewhere upstairs. Thank you for inspiring me!

Thank you Margaret for your visit here and your very kind words!

The rug really makes the room. It is in the neutral palette that you are leaning toward but it has a bit more of a dramatic pattern so the room doesn’t go too sleepy. Nicely done. Visiting via The Dedicated House Make it Pretty Monday.
