I was flipping through the Facebook Market ads a few days ago when I spotted this sweet little side table:
I love pine.
It is such a humble and beautiful wood.
The girl that was selling it actually had me at the little key holes.
It was a good prices and besides being dusty it was in great shape. So I spent the evening after I picked it up browsing Pinterest and Instagram trying to get inspired by a color. I find a lot of the colors I use based on photos from Pinterest. Plus it’s good excuse to go to the paint store.
Behold General Finishes Slate.
This is one moody paint color.
Depending on the light it pulls both blue and green.
Speaking of pulls………
I found these bail pulls online at an antique hardware store in Orlando called Hinge.
They were $2.10 each.
For antique bail pulls!
I have since placed a substantial order to say the least. Hardware is probably my biggest expense but I can’t see putting all the time and effort in to a piece and then not putting the cherry on top. I wish I likes Early American bat wing hardware, but I do not.
I really thought about leaving the original top but after I painted the body of this little chest that top looked really orange. So I sanded off the old finish with my little orbital and finished it with Annie Sloan Dark Wax. It is my absolute favorite finish to use on pine pieces.
I hit the Trader Joe’s floral department yesterday 🙂
So I am on a mission this week to clean out The Hell Hole.
I have already week working on it for the past couple days and I have no less than 8 pieces of furniture out there in various stages of being finished. So………
More to come ya’ll.

Love your ‘new’ painted chest. Did you prime it before painting it with the slate paint. I have a similar piece of furniture and want to paint it. Was afraid it might ‘bleed’ since original stain is cherry. Please advise. Thank you!

This color is great. We are downsizing our home this summer and I am also on Pinterest scouring for ideas to incorporate in this new to us home. I’ve been thinking about kitchen base cabinets or maybe the island in a darker color. I love this one and will pin it to my Sedgeford board. 😀 Thanks for the inspiration.
