I mentioned in my last post that I did an ‘ In& Out ‘ at my Goodwill a couple of weeks ago and made a couple very spur of the moment decisions.
Behold Rash Decision # 2.
It was just barely visible sticking out from under a dining table and, the price was key.
I didn’t even consider its height.
I had been walking around it out in the garage for several days when it hit me. I bought a really long, really big ottoman.
For $15.
As I stewed about what fabric to use on my new ottoman/coffee table I was out and about in Asheville and I had stuck my head in the Antique Tobacco Barn to prowl around a bit when the solution to my dilemma hit me square in the face.
I found a booth about a third of the way down on the righthand side that had a buttload of grain sacks! The Tobacco Barn was having it’s Summer Sale and it just so happened that these sacks were 15% off.
The sack was originally $35 ……. and yes I flinched at that.
Since one end of the sack was open I decided to sew three ribbon ties on that open end to hold it closed.
I dug through my ribbon stash looking for a suitable one to use when I found one long piece of cream cotton ribbon with a herringbone pattern.
I happened to be perfect!
It took me a while to go through the entire stack of sacks to decide which one I really wanted to use. The red and blue stripes were my very favorite :))))
I painted the wood frame with three coats of General Finishes Antique White…… and got the sandpaper out.
Tomorrow I’m trying this thing out in front of my couch.
If the sun shines I’ll take a few photos:)

I love the grain sack as a cushion cover. That was a good shopping trip.

What a perfect solution you’ve come up with. It looks fantastic. Now, since I’m about an hour from Ashville, I feel so tempted to run up there and see if they have anymore grain sacks on sale! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Patti

Did I miss something on the grain sack pillow for bench? What did you stuff it with? Love it!

Hi Vickie
I used the original cushion. It was in good shape, no stains and smelled good.

It’s beautiful! I’m terrible at sewing, but I want to create a bench seat cushion for my house and I think I can manage it now with your cushion as inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at The Creative Circle Link Party!

Iris Nacole thank you so much. My cushion was in great shape so I just reused it in the grain sack. But I noticed in Target that those body pillows, you know the ones that are 4 feet long or longer would have also worked for the insert. Good luck on yours!
