If you’ve got a nice frame this digital instant download stuff on Etsy is addictive.
These bird eggs were the second print that I purchased from Etsy. I have a spot spot in my heart for bird egg studies so this , at $2 was a no-brainer . All of the mattes in the 8 Goodwill frames that I found were pale, baby pink. That color only goes so far and I did leave two of them alone, but for this brown speckled eggs I chose a heavy gift wrap in a blue ticking stripe.
I painted the frame in General Finishes Antique White and lightly distressed it with a fine grit sanding sponge, I was pretty careful not to go too crazy on the distressing. The brown of the odds and the blue in the paper need to be the focal point, don’t you think? I really like blue and brown together 🙂
Being able to upcycle a thrifted frame and recover the matte is like Christmas to a nut like me. Oh…..the possibilities! I originally but this paper to like the drawers of the white handmade dresser that I posted about an week or two ago. I found the room of gift wrap a Marshalls for 4 of 5 bucks. I almost walked out of the store with one role in my hand but for some reason went back and got the second one.
Good thing I did 😉
I still have two more to share later this week.

Wow! Another inspiring idea. I would have never thought of wrapping paper! For my daughter’s room we reused an old oval frame i had. The matte was a horrible faded mauve. I just spray painted it white. It would be very difficult to cover in the oval shape but this is great for most frames.

I love the vintage look of the eggs print with the ticking as matting. Your paint job and distressing on the frame are perfect to round out the project.

The ticking stripes are gift wrap? Wow so pretty! I love the way it turned out.
