I lovingly refer to my garage as
The Hell Hole.
Why? Because it is one. You could probably find Jimmy Hoffa out there. Or the Lindbergh baby. But lately it is looking better. Partly because Big Daddy has asked me to please prioritize my projects. This means I should give the pieces that have been out there the longest credit for time served.
This one has been sitting out there, covered in crap for two and a half years.
The other reason for the extend sentence was that it smelled like…….. let’s just say it stunk.
So to appease my husband I took the trunk out in preparation for God knows what and I began to Google how to get the stink out. Turns out the easiest thing to do?
Spray paint.
It don’t stink No Mo.
The trunk was free from a good friend and I used eight cans of $.98 flat white spray paint from Walmart.
The majoirity of this trunk is metal so as soon as it was dry I took a medium grit sanding sponge to it to bring out all of the sweet details. And , as usual I am kicking my own rear end for letting it sit for so long!
I did the project out in my side yard with the company of my neighbor boy, Zachary. He told me every joke he ever heard.
He is a cool little dude:)
Makes a pretty sweet outdoor coffee table, if I do say so…..
Have a lovely long Memorial weekend 🙂

You have inspired me. I saw this trunk and I immediately thought of one I have had for twenty years. It looks like a big old suitcase and it is well worn. I love that worn look and I don’t care who puts their feet up on it. But when I saw your piece painted white it got me thinking that mine would have a totally different feel and seem fresh again if I took the plunge and painted it. Yours is so pretty. Thanks for the motivation and pushing me to think beyond the expected.

I feel your pain, but my own “hell hole” is right in my home. I think many DIY’ers can relate. My poor hubby & family constantly ask me to either get rid of the stuff or hurry up & make something! I also had an old trunk sitting around for about 3 years before finally making a coffee table out of it (it sold). My porch is about the same size as yours, so I really should try doing something like this. I’m sure my hubby would appreciate it! Thanks for inspiring me to try to improve my porch appeal.

I’m another one whose garage is packed to overflowing. As soon as I get one thing done, I find or someone gives me something. The trunk looks great. And the porch, absolutely wonderful.
