That post title probably got your attention, huh?
Have you priced pillow shams lately? Personally, I think they are outrageous. I recently purchased a custom pair of pillow shams from an Etsy shop with a gift card I had chipmunked since Christmas. It was a really nice gift for myself but they were fifty bucks for the pair. Today I am sharing a cheap and easy way to DIY your own pillow shams .
Here is your supply list:
I ran across these navy paisley pillow shams on the clearance aisle at my neighborhood Walmart for $4.98. I loved the color and also that they were 100% cotton plus I knew they would coordinate well with the navy and white bedding that I already owned. So in my cart they went.
Next I headed on over to the craft department and picked up a roll of navy grosgrain ribbon for $1.98. I chose to match my my ribbon to my pillow case fabric, but a contrasting or accent color would look nice also.
Next I test fitted my pillows in my pillow case that I had prewashed. The cases were about four inches longer that I wanted (in order for the pillow to fit snuggly in the sham) so I turned them inside out and ran a seam across the bottom of the pillow case to easily shorten it up.
Then I cut 6 lengths of the ribbon, about 6 inches long that would serve as the closures for my shams.
I pinned all six ribbons in place and then used my sewing machine to sew them in.
All that was left to do was turn my new shams right side out, stuff them and make our bed.
It was that easy and took me about half an hour, start to finish!
Have fun ya’ll 🙂
