We have had a really early Spring this year here in the mountains of western North Carolina. And it seems that this weekend it’s gone straight to Summer. It has been in the 80’s for most of this week. We have been pretty busy with our yard and other outdoor spaces that our actual home has been a bit neglected. So yesterday I cleaned the house from top to bottom and today after spending the morning with my family, I played 🙂
I have been chipmunking new fabric and pillow covers for a few months now with Spring and Summer in mind. I started with the navy paisley shams in the back that I made out of Walmart clearance pillowcases!
Five bucks for 2.
Sweet.
The blue ticking shams I found on Etsy. They are a drapery weight fabric. In hindsight I wish I had asked about that. I assumed the fabric would be a utility grade ticking. In other words, I hoped the fabric would have more body, be stiffer. I like them just fine though.
Now this navy buffalo check is nice!!! I found it on Amazon for less than $9 a yard with free shipping. The weight/ body is perfect. It is made by Premier Fabrics and comes in lots of colors. You can find it here:
I ordered several yards of it and I am sooooo glad I did. It’s a very nice fabric for the price. Originally I found it at Fabric.com but it was more expensive plus there was a shipping charge. I have purchased several different fabrics from Amazon and I have been pleasantly surprised by the price and it arrives fast.
I actually cleaned off my Bedside table.
I know.
Nobody is more shocked than me. My bedside table is the very definition of a ‘Catch All”. The flowers came form my Mama’s. I cut these as well as her prized blue Rhododendron.
The navy linen pillow was a Goodwill find.
It is brand new with a down inserted and I paid $2 for it. It could not be more perfect for the tweed chair in out bedroom. This navy striped throw was the deal of the day though.
This sooooo soft navy and white ‘Woobie”as we call it at our house, was also a Walmart clearance score for $5!!! It was the only one way back on the clearance aisle. I honestly thought it was probably a mistake, like someone probably left it there by mistake. So I was more than prepared to leave it at the register if it was not a good deal. I love how it looks in our chair. Plus it will be great to curl up and nap with.
I just keep finding these cool silver composts. I looooove them. They are pretty versatile, as old silver pieces go. I got this one for $4 at my Goodwill. I also found the little blue Transfer Ware saucer on the same trip. It adds a bit of navy to Big Daddy’s Dresser.
I brought home few pieces of my Mama’s Blue Willow a few weeks ago. The platter on the bottom belongs to my Aunt Wanda. She lent it to me and I’m in LOVE with it :)))). I exchanged these for the black and white plates that were in our master bathroom. To me these simple, inexpensive changes are so refreshing. I’m really enjoying the crisp and clean feel the blue brings to our home.
Navy is invading Casa Del Davis.
I like it.
A LOT !

Your bedroom looks lovely — clean & fresh, calm & relaxing — just the way a bedroom should be! I really like the way you have used plates and old books in your decorating. They are quite effective. The bed linens & pillows look great — A+ for frugality on your $5 Walmart score!

Hi, I was wondering where you got the fabric for the floral pillows on the bed or if you purchased them as pillows. I love them and all of the room! It is so inviting! I know what you mean about doing yard work or housework. I can’t do both!

Oh Julie I love this fabric. I did make my pillows. The fabric is made by Covington Fabric & Design. The pattern is called Noblesse. I made the about a year ago. You can read the original post here: http://www.southerncurated.com/2016/04/the-bedroom-blues.html
