The second I agreed to join Team Sweeten Creek Antiques & Collectables for Vintage Market Days in Asheville,
I started to tweak, ever so slightly.
The ‘What If’s’ started to creep in to the corners of my Crazy Little Head. The first ‘What If’ was a doozie:
What if I can’t find any furniture to put in the Market???
As usual, this thought led to a rash decision….. or two.
I saw the French Provincial chest at my neighborhood Goodwill for WAY too much money. Like over $100. As you can see by this before pic it was beat to crap. So, in my defense I did watched it for about a week as the price was marked down several times, until I really panicked and still paid too much.
Well too much for me. I’m kinda cheap.
Turns out, as it always does that there is enough junk furniture for Paige to work with. I mean I really get kinda crazy with that thought. Especially when the pressure is ON.
Now After 🙂
Annie Sloan French Linen
Oh. How I love you.
I painted this French chest in two coats of French Linen and then waxed it in Annie Sloan’s clear wax. I allowed that wax to cure for a couple of days and then distressed the ‘High Points”, so to speak. I do love how it turned out but the real show here is the hardware 🙂
These little darlings I found a Hobby Lobby.

The are heavy, wrought iron with a gorgeous antique patina to them. I found them, then I laid in wait for their perpetual every-other-week 50% off on the Knob aisle. That did ease the Dingbat Guilt over the price I paid for the chest a bit
.
We are getting down to the home stretch for the Market.
My goal was 12 pieces of furniture as my contribution to Sweeten Creek Antiques HUGE, 400 square feet booth. I have finished ten of them. I have not rushed at all, but it is just about all I’ve done for a month. I have worked very steadily and it has really paid off. I have 13 days left to work. Having said that, I have two pieces to go and they are BIG. Both will need hardware that I haven’t even picked out plus Big Daddy and I will be in Nashville Tennessee for three days next week. In my not so Crazy Little Head all I can do has to be enough.
Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!

Perfect soft grey, and I adore your choice of hardware Paige, a wonderful change from the typical French scrolly stuff, to me it really makes this piece stand out even with the soft tone, wonderful design! Thanks for sharing it at Fridays Furniture Fix!

Thank you Brenda! I have never really loved that typical French Provincial hardware.

You did a beautiful job bringing the chest back to life. It was well worth the cost.
