I really love our guest room. The bed is always made and the light is beautiful. I love to go in there and read or just take a nap. When it snows the view from the the bed is amazing. I’ve been playing around in there lately. Nothing major, just switching out some stuff I either had stored to in other rooms. I really wanted some new pillow shams so I had been looking in all my usual haunts, but no luck. So I was trolling Etsy a few weeks and these popped up in the “suggested for you” section:
These brown toile shams are very well made and I’m really enjoying them in the guest room! I’m a Toile Nut to begin with so these were right up my alley. You know how one thing just leads to several when you start shuffling things around?
Well……….
Another thing I LOVE about this room is this antique writing table.
It belonged to my dear friend Ann Marie’s Mother. She gave it to me just to see what I could do with it. I refinished the top and the painted the body in my most favorite of colors, Annie Sloan Duck Egg. I’m just sort of ‘storing’ it for either Ann Marie or her sister Mary Ann for a while until one of them claims it :).
Until them, I’m enjoying it 🙂
This writing table is a very special piece. I have never seen another one like it.
Believe it of not, this lamp was actually a circa 1970’s brass and wood lamp that I made over several years ago, also with Duck Egg. That’s what I do when I can’t find the lamp I want in a store. The shade I found on the clearance shelf at Lowe’s.
I does feel a bit more like Spring here in the guest room 🙂
Next week will me a Nut House around here.
Sunday is my last day to paint anything & two more loads of furniture have to be taken to the storage area we are all using for the Market. Monday is my last day to load the rest of my ‘Large’ stuff to be taken to the venue for Vintage Market Day Asheville. Tuesday will be my last day to pack the rest of my ‘Small’ Market items. Wednesday is ‘Move In’ day at the venue. If I am being honest, I am starting to feel it. And I mean FEEL it. I have been cool as hell right up until about 6:00 this evening. For a Crazy Little Girl like Paige, this is Big Time. I want to do well at the Market. But more than that….I want to fit in.
And right now……this very second……I want my Mama.

How do you decide what pieces of furniture you are going to paint in a room? For example, the headboard? it is a beautiful piece but it just looks like something you might paint. Also,I have recently found your blog and really enjoy it. I love the way you have decorated your home. Don’t worry you will fit in. Gosh darn it people just seem to like you.

Oh Nancy, you are precious! I’m sitting in a hotel lobby in Nashville, TN fretting over not being home in NC finishing up stuff for the Market. Your comment come at a time when I needed it most:). I just read it to my Husband, who I have been driving crazy for two days with the”what if’s”. His response to you was, ‘I can’t imagine why!’.
I think I make my decision based on on two things. 1. How much wood a room needs or doesn’t need. 2. What accent color can I bring in by rehabbing a piece of junk 🙂
Thank you again for the smile on my face!

Paige,
You’ll fit right in at Vintage Market Days.
My sister lives in Asheville and I will be making a trip from Atlanta next weekend to the Vintage Market Days. Can’t wait to see your booth and to say hello.
I always stop by Sweeten Creek Antiques to check-out your beautiful booth. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will be beautiful.
All the Best,
Carol
