This is without a doubt the dirtiest piece of furniture I have ever dragged in.
And trust me when I say that’s saying something.
I have found some lulu’s.
Yuck O Rama.
I was possessed to buy this for one and only one reason, the price. $26 bucks. It’s hard to tell from the photos but this French Provincial chest of drawers is a really good sized piece.
For that I was willing to scrub this thing like a women possessed. I mixed up some soapy water, grabbed a rag and went to town! In addition to the garden variety filth there was also a fair amount of candle wax on this thing. I just scraped that off with my fingernail. I’m not a huge fan of this style of furniture. I certainly don’t seek it out but it seems to find me for some reason. This chest is about the fourth or fifth piece of French Provincial furniture that I’ve rehabbed to date and I have two more pieces out in The Hell Hole (The Davis Garage). I think its the hardware that puts me off. I like the general lines of this style really well so I usually just ditch that hardware.
I chose to paint this chest Coastal Blue from General Finishes. I have been drooling over the deep, rich navy blue for some time now and it just so happened that I was right near my local supplier as I was taking the chest back to my house so I run in and got myself a can.
For me, its always hard to paint these really deep, dark colors. It took two good coats plus touchups to get this finish/coverage. Also for me, thats a lot of work. I’m a fairly lazy painter. But I am here to tell you that it was well worth it! I just spread out an old bed sheet in the living room floor and painted while I watched the NFC Championship game. Big Daddy was actually at the game (Loosing His Mind!!) so I had the joint to myself 🙂
The results?
This color is the thing that Paige Dreams are made of.
Please ignore the cat hairs and concentrate on this hardware, please.

I got these antique pulls from PullsDirect for $4.55 each and shipping was free! I had them in my hot little hand in four, count ’em four day. I was out in the Hell Hole painting on a freaky warm day when the FedEx girl pulled in to my driveway.
It was magic.
This sweet little thing is going to be super hard to part with. I’m loving how it looks in our living room. I would love to have a pair of these in General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint flanking our fireplace. I am just in LOVE with this luscious color! This will not be the last time I use this color by no means.
Lord, now I’m on the HUNT yet again.

Beautiful piece, perfect price, gorgeous refinishing, I love the blue! I love French Country but the hardware you chose is much more well-suited in my opinion.

Beautiful makeover Paige! A great example how the hardware makes the piece, you wouldn’t even recognize it as a frenchy at first glance, and I love the blue! Thanks so much for sharing your project at Fridays Furniture Fix, love having you!
