Over the Summer I tried to chipmunk as may pieces of furniture away in The Hell Hole as I possibly could. I don’t have as may sources for well priced stuff in the Winter as I do in the warmer weather so now I have a nice little stockpile to work through. The weather here in Western North Carolina has turned colder and you can feel Winter coming. My days of painting large pieces outside are drawing to a close for the year so I’vepicked the biggest piece of furniture for my last outdoor paint of the year.
Only when I got hold of it, it kinda looked like this:
Fact of business, I walked right by it twice!
It was 25% off day down at my Habitat Restore and this little wreck rang up to just about exactly what was left of my Restore credit, so out the door it went with me.
I did not deliberate or fret the least bit over this one. I knew in my heart from jump that the color needed to be white.
This was my very first time painting with a General Finishes white. Now it has always been my experience that ANY white paint is difficult to paint.
GF Antique White was no exception.
It took three coats of the Antique White to cover this mahogany wardrobe. That is frustrating to me. But one thing made it all better:
No bleeding!!
The GF paint worked like a charm 🙂
The appliqué details on the front were in bad shape and actually missing in a few places so Big Daddy uses a small hand held saw.
He gently scored them and then pried the piece of appliqué up slightly with a flat screwdriver to snap it off from the rest of the detail.
These knobs I found at Hobby Lobby for $3 each. I love that backplate detail!
These are the last of the big bag of pulls that I got from my neighbors. I’m really loving the antique brass finish of the hardware with the piece .
And the top came out sooooo pretty. I truly had my doubts about it. It was quite the mess when I brought it home. The finish is just my standard:
Annie Sloan Dark Wax
On this Thanksgiving Day we have a lot to be thankful for at our house. Please take a moment and think of folks who may be by theirselves and give them a call. There is always more than enough to go around so share it with everybody!
Big Daddy and I want to wish you and your family a Happy and wonderful Thanksgiving.
Paige

Great transformation! I have a piece that looks similar, so I think that's why I'm drawn to this one, too. Thank you for sharing your talent!

I generally hate to see beautiful vintage furniture painted, more often than not, the beauty lies in the grain of the wood. But for once, I believe that by painting it, you made it more beautiful than it was! Nice job, and a great score at the ReStore… I love that place!!

Thank you so much Mitch! I try really hard not to paint anything that I can salvage and refinish. Its pretty easy to keep that oath because the better pieces are out of my budget :). Thanks for stopping by!
