Everybody on the face of this Earth knows at least one thing about me:
When I get something in my Crazy Little Head . . .
I can not get it out of it.
Fact.

So I haven’t set foot in a Dollar Tree in
For-Ever, till today. As I was prowling each aisle when I came across a huge stack of gold chargers and my wheels started to turn. I have two sets of chargers to my name, one is antique silver the others is rattan. And most of the time these are sufficient.
Then the Holidays roll around and I go NUTS!
Alas, I am a Tightwad.
There are worse things that I could be.
I spent $7
I came home with 6 of those gold chargers and a 98 cent can of flat fast drying black spray paint from Walmart.
And I went to work:)
This entire project took me less than one hour. I’ve used the 98 cent spray paint COUNTLESS times and it never disappoints! The finish is a perfectly flat black, it only takes one coat and it dries super fast!
Perfect for a NUT like me!
It took me at least four tries to get this right and I had to wipe the chalk off with a lint free cloth.
My little sprayed on finish held up well.
$7
Most of the chargers I see in TJ Max cost that much for one.
I can think of a few more variations of this same project.
We will see what else I can do with these $1 chargers!

Did you need to scuff the gold chargers before painting them?

Nope, I'm way too impatient for that! That's another reason I love this .98 paint from Walmart !

I love it – such a cute idea! I popped over from Share Your Style because I noticed your Royal Doulton plates. I have the same ones, or I should say "some of the same ones." I never finished buying the whole set because they discontinued the pattern! I have not been able to find them anywhere and when I do see them on Ebay, Replacements or someplace like that, there are only a few random pieces and are SO expensive! Have you had yours for awhile or have you found a place to buy them? Thanks! – Shelley

Hi Shelley ! I have 8 of these and I've had them for about 15 years, I think. I used to get them at a really good price at an outlet in Tennesee and I Think I brought one home from Texas. I only have these salad plates. I have never been able to commit enough to a china pattern to complete the set but I can commit all day to salad plates!!! Thank you for the kind words 🙂

Great job! Best of all DIY worlds: awesome project, super useful and cute, and cheap. I forget about going to the dollar store, too. Thanks for the reminder
