‘Habitat For Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Our mission is to put God’s love in to action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and HOPE.’
Building Hope.
Because without Hope, you have nothing. This should be all of our visions, in my opinion.
‘Habitat was founded in 1976 and since has helped 6.8 million people improve their living conditions.’
6.8 million.
And in the world today I’m sure there are many, many more who need help.
Today, my point is this.
Speaking as a Maker, an artist of sorts, but definitely a Furniture Flipper, Repurposer and Upcycler, I think we as a community can make a contribution to this need.
We pick up junk ALL the time.
A good bit of it we actually pay money for. I’m proposing that we give a thought toward this organization. More than a thought, really. Let’s contribute to this goal of a decent home for all by shopping for our junk, furniture, smalls for our styling or booths, paint brushes and hardware . . . .
At our local Habitat Restores!
Are we going to walk out of there with an oak dresser for $50 every time?
No.
I am being realistic.
We all have a budget when we go out to find our next flip. I like to call it my ‘Max Buy In’ and currently it’s $50. I do not give myself much room at all. Most of the time our Buy In is directly proportional to your local economy in terms of the big question:
What does painted furniture go for I your neck of the woods? That’s going to vary according to region of the country.
Here’s what I do:
The Asheville Restore Is about six minutes from my office. Meaning it’s very conveniently located for me to pop in when I can. Actually it is more than convenient. It is exactly half way between my office and my shop at Sweeten Creek Antiques. Just understand that I do not get The Cream Of The Crop down there but I have found some cool stuff:)
This brings me to my next point:
The Habitat Restore Restyle Contest!
That’s me in the bottom right corner:). I won the furniture catagory last year with a bench Big Daddy and I made out of an d bed and I’m competing again this year. Here’s a link to this year’s voting site and I’d really appreciate your vote!
Here’s my entry, I’m #23!
You can vote once per day:)
Thank you so much for your support and I encourage everyone to drop in at your local restore !

Girl! Today is the 16th! Why didn't you tell us sooner? We've lost 8 days we could have been voting. Drat! Your ReStore is better than ours. Ours seems to think they are selling new stuff.
