Y’all I ’bout peed my pants in the
Habitat Restore.
Fact.
Here’s the catalyst
Need I say more?
I didn’t think so.
Where I live library tables are few and far between. On my budget? Even fewer. I actually own two of them. One I bought at an auction probably 20+ years go and the other one I inherited from my Mama. I honestly think every home needs one. They are super versatile. My Mama used hers in her bedroom as a desk. Ours is in our living room. It’s a great place to work, like on the laptop and we also serve hordervers and drinks on it.
Cause we’re crazy like that:)
Now remember, my max buy in these days on a piece to sell is $50. So when I saw this one for that price. . . .
I. Went. Nuts.
This makeover currently hold the record for the fastest sand down ever. It took me exactly seven minutes to take off what finish was left on this top. There were a few deeper gouges but I really don’t worry about those. I finish most of my tops with Annie Sloan Dark Wax and I really like how it settles right in to those spaces. Character folks.
For me, it’s better to keep larger pieces of furniture more neutral. I chose a medium value gray for this one and I’m really pleased with my results.
You know, I keep a few ( because they are $38 per quart) paint colors in quarts in my arsenal as what I call ‘Staple’ colors. Im just about to add Annie Sloan French Linen to that list.
It is the perfect gray.
Emmitt approves.
The top turned out really well.
And those knobs?
I dug them out of my knob stash.
They are porcelain. I found them at Hobby Lobby about a year ago for $2 each.
Where ever Mamma goes , Emmitt goes.
As I was painting I found a little surprise tucked up under the lip of the table top.
I always wonder as I’m working on a piece, ‘Where’d you come from?
Where have you been?
Who loved you first?’
Well in this case I love you now.
And I promise to find you a lovely new home.

One gracious, beautiful girl. Love the message under the table top. The contrast between the wood finish and the gray is classic.

Ahh what a gorgeous piece of furniture. Your redo makes it even more so. I always fantasize about the furnitures history and especially love it when I find a clue.
