A couple of weeks ago I ran through the furniture section of the Asheville Habitat For Humanity Restore to see if anything (in my price range) caught my eye when I spotted a nice sized dining table.
I’m starting to really have a thing for these pedestal tables.
Plus, there’s this:
Pretty sweet price, but I’m still working on that gift certificate so this was free 🙂
This very nice man named Troy helped me take the base off of it so it would fit in to my Jeep. Then it sat in The Hell Hole for two weeks till I decided to do something I haven’t done in a while. I took a long weekend off to myself.
And I loved every minute of it.
A weekend to myself involves doing only things that I want to do. I stayed home. I had coffee on my porch every morning. I had a two hour nap three outa four days. I did not wash or straighten my hair. No makeup was applied. I cleaned my house thoroughly, washed all of our bedding and we DID NOT go out to eat at all. We both love to cook so we took full advantage of good grilling weather and fresh stuff from friends gardens.
And I painted some furniture.
Weird girl, I know.
This table was absolutely no trouble at all. That’s a luxury in my world. I seldom drag in something that’s not all to pieces.
There was barely any finish left on the top. It sanded off in about 40 minutes with 80 grit and my little orbital sander. I finished it with my old standby, dark wax.
The pedestal was off still when I painted it and let me just tell y’all, that is the way to go!
Sitting cross legged in my kitchen floor. . .
In the air conditioning 🙂
I’m really loving how this one came out!
I’m not usually that crazy about oak table tops ( too much grain) but this is beautiful. It turned out to be a veneer so I sanded very carefully.
The base is Duck Egg of course.
I’m still on that kick.
I’ve looked all over for some cheap to free chairs but no luck. I really do not at all like to paint chairs but I’d kinda like to do a whole set in this color sometime.
If nobody minds I’m going to run Hydrangea Season in to the ground, k?
This table will seat six people easily. Dining table this big are kind of pricey so even if I’d payed the $29 this is an exceptional deal.
All it really took was time and a little elbow grease 🙂

I love how that came out! The contract with the blue and brown is so pretty. I've checked out the Habitats near me in Raleigh but they are always too expensive.

I love the way you make everything beautiful! You see the potential & run with it. And no, I will never get tired of seeing your hydrangeas!

What did you finish the top with? A dark wax?
