My husband thinks I’m nuts.
This is not news.
Good thing he likes ’em crazy. I really like to use plates as art. He thinks I have too many plates on the walls of our home. I’m pretty sure Marian Parsons would disagree . I personally think plate walls are the bomb. Yet another thing my Mama passed on to me 🙂
When we finally repainted out big red dining room I did a plate wall in there and I haven’t regretted it for a moment.
It makes for a big focal point and costs very little to put together.
I also have some in our master bathroom. You can see the black Transferware in the mirror.
When I refreshed our master bedroom a few weeks ago I was begining to play around in my head with putting a few white plates in there as well. I just think there is something dramatic and soothing about them all at the same time. So after keeping my eyes open around my usual haunts it didn’t take me long to put together a collection to work with.
If you take the time to look you can pretty much wonder in to any Goodwill or Salvation Army and pick up a stack like this for less than $10. And these will cover A LOT of wall space. The hardest part is figuring out the arrangement.
My best advice to you is :
1. Lay it all out on the floor and walk around it for a while.
Like all day.
2. TAKE YOUR TIME.
So here’s what I did:
Grand total
$11
Not including two hangers I had to buy.
I did get the bottom platter retail but at least it was on clearance for $5 because it has a mark on it. The large platter on the top is my favorite. It’s an antique piece of Homer Laughlin china that I found at the Salvation Army for $2.99. I really love the tiny gold flower detail around the edge and the scalloped rim.
The platter in the center was a $1 Thriftstore find and the cake plates I stole from the dining room. I have three more saucers to add maybe, just to fluff it up a bit. I’m still mulling it over.
I also hung this $1 lacy edge piece of French Haviland above my chest of drawers with a few vintage blue books. The French language textbook I’ve had since high school.
These lend just a little color without being overwhelming. Plus, I just had to walk to bookcase downstairs to get them.
In my feety pajamas 🙂

This is one of my favorite old tricks! We have plates all over the house. In fact, I love red transferware and it's sprinkled around the house. It occurred to me once that people probably think I have no imagination.
Be sure and link up with us at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. 🙂
I absolutely love the white plates on your dining room wall. The table is so pretty too.

This is beautiful! I love the idea of them in the bathroom too! They're just too pretty to leave in a cabinet, so why not decorate with them? 🙂
