Hello, my name is Paige. I’m a Transferware Lunitic , raised by a Transferware Lunitic.
My Mamma was a collector.
Of what?
It is a long and ponderous list. Let’s just suffice it to say that she loved old things. She truly appreciated things that had stood the test of time. When I was ten years old she bought a old house, a white Cape Cod on a few acres of land out in the country and began, with sweat and Duck Tape, to make it our home.
Among her various collections one particularly stands out in my mind:
Her Blue Willow
She began this collection when I was in my early teens with a few pieces from our local grocery store. Well, she had good taste and picked an absolutely timeless pattern that really complimented her oak antique furniture pieces she loved so much.
Over the years that followed she added to her collection with antique pieces of Blue Willow then a little Flow Blue and some Delft Pottery.
Years later I would give her Johnson Brothers pieces as well as these little guys.
I think this particular pattern is way more versatile than people give it credit for. My mother used it on just about every occasion. My favorite was at Christmas when she would use it with red. Not a lot of red either. Usually just a big red Poinsetta in the middle of the table in a tureen.
Personally, I think it looks just perfect with her pink rhododendrons.
Have a great week,
Paige

Ah all the memories, they keep us going. My Mom also had blue willow she got at grocery stores in her later years. Our youngest daughter kept them when she finished clearing out her house. My Mom/daughter&family lived in San Diego area, hubs and I in MT. I had been there to go thru some things before we knew for sure what would happen to Mom. Was really hard for us both. Daughter asked me if I wanted blue willow but since I didn't felt daughter sure deserved it after all her hard work. That was in '98 and daughter still has blue willow in her buffet, think more for memories than need of dishes.
Your Mom has some beautiful pieces in her collection, I love the little bunny. You must have such wonderful memories tied to her blue willow, cherish them.
I find the older I get I tend to cherish older pieces from childhood memories. I'll be 76 in July.
When I go to thrift stores and see old pieces wonder who had those and loved them. Sometimes family is too quick to get rid of things they don't want but when they get older wish they had kept piece or two. Sure glad to say I have kept a piece or two of my Mother's. Thinking about my Mom makes me get tears, wishing I had been better daughter even tho I tried hard to be.
Have great rest of week and enjoy upcoming weekend.
