As I’ve been doing a few updates
around our house lately I’ve been adding in the color blue. I have to tell you I am really enjoying it! Particularly the darker shades. To me it has a slightly coastal vibe which is nice for Spring and Summer without actually having seashells and lighthouses all over my house. After all, I do live in the Blue Ridge.
I was wondering around Joann’s yesterday (they had just texted me a GREAT coupon!) when I noticed on an endcap a display of Americana Decor chalk paint. Now it is no secret that I love this paint. I usually get mine at Michaels and I don’t think I have ever noticed it at Joann’s. To me it is right up there with Annie Sloan in terms of features like ease of application, coverage and self priming/ self leveling. Plus you can’t beat the price point.
Then there’s that whole coupon thing. It doesn’t come in a ton of colors but I have learned how to mix custom ones from a color card I picked up at Michaels ( and never saw in there again, mind you) and I’ve been very pleased with the results.
Back to the display:
The first thing that occurred to me was that there appeared to be more and different colors in Joann’s than I was used to seeing at Michaels.
Like this jewel:
$3.42
With that sweet 60% off coupon.
I thought I was gonna pass put.
The second I got home I went out to The Hell Hole, also known as our garage and dug out a pair of old brass lamps I’ve had squirreled out there for a little while. I’ve been waiting on my electrician to re wire them for me but he hasn’t gotten around to it quite yet. Y’all know him as Big Daddy.
They have a nice shape and at $3 each I really could not go wrong so I dove in to this new paint color. If Big a Daddy scratches them I’ll touch them up. I was too excited to wait.
Let me just say right now that this new paint color Honor did not disappoint 🙂
It’s like velvet!
This is without a doubt the most beautiful Navy in the Chalk Paint World.
Fact.
Honor is a deep, rich, perfect Navy Blue. I think it really pairs nicely with these burlap shades. Please take note of the great coverage! There is rust on this lamp.
Can you see it?
Me either 🙂
Lord, I think I’m going to have to keep these. I rarely keep things I paint. They almost always go to friends or family. The rest I take down to my shop. When I do end up keeping a piece Big Daddy refers to it as ‘getting high on my own supply’.
Yes.
Yes I certainly am.
I was really hard pressed to find two lamp finials in this house so I had to improvise.
More on that later 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Paige

I am lovin' the cork finials . . . WHO KNEW!! I have a basket full of those in the pantry just waiting for inspiration. Thanks so much for your innovation on that one

I love your lamps and I'm always amazed at the low prices on the thrift store items on the East Coast. Here in California prices are so much more on used items. I painted two cabinets yesterday using Benjamin Moore sample paint in navy. How long should I wait to wax them with paste wax? Thank you for your help.
monkeytails66@gmail.com says
Hey! I really like to give a piece 24 hours to cure. Hope this helps!

Love the "hell hole" description. Don't we all have one!! Beautiful job on the lamps. Did you wax them too?
monkeytails66@gmail.com says
Yes, with Annie Sloan clear soft wax.
