I do not enjoy just throwing money at anything. Honestly, there’s no sport (or fun) in it. I prefer to let things evolve and come together over time , taking my time and enjoying the ride.
So I’ve told you that to tell you this. I was absolutely DYING to see my new company name on some damn thing besides my Ipad screen. So I started surfing around the web looking at professional branding packages.
And I wanted to cry.
Branding, unless your cousin does it, is pricey. So I stewed on it for a little while and decided to try something on my own. I like to play around with fonts when I do chalkboards, this shouldn’t be a whole lot different.
I started the entire project with this:
I know you’ve seen these. It looks like a canvas but it’s not, if that makes any sense at all. I got this one at Habitat Restore for $10. If I had not been crazy to make something I would have never paid that price. Big Daddy thinks I painted over a Mona Lisa.
Lord.
These canvas- nots paint up beautifully.
The frame took a while. I painted it in three different colors: Provence, Selznick Grey and Old White. ( a layer for each color). My plan was to heavily distress this frame to show all three colors plus the dark wood underneath.
Here’s what I came up with
And I am quite happy!
The sign is pretty substantial, nearly three feet long. I’ve seen these canvas-nots a lot longer but you know how that goes. As soon as you are looking for one, you’ll never find it. So, I’ll keep my eyes open for one down the road.
That magnolia is leftover from Christmas. It dries really well, in my opinion . I love the olive green and chestnut brown it turns when dried. I’m really liking the combination of the magnolia and these antique green books I’ve been collecting. Big Daddy has recently added ‘Collecting books by color’ tab to his ‘Nut List’ that he keeps on me.
And here’s what it looks like down in my shop!

Love it!!! I too feel the pain of branding. I am hoping to use a friend this time so I will let you know how it goes. So proud of all that you have accomplished with this business. For what it's worth, we all have a "nut list"! 🙂
