I mentioned in my last post that I’ve
been in a Dry spell since the weather has turned colder and Winter has really set in here in Asheville NC. I really have much better luck finding furniture at yard/ garage sales than at Thriftstores like Goodwill or Salvation Army. I mean I do OK, but I find I get MUCH better pricing at a yard sale. So on a rainy Saturday morning in January I was randomly poking around on Craigslist when I found a single moving sale very close to my house. I promised Big Daddy a Diner Breakfast if he drove and he beat me to the car!
I’ll have to remember that one.
The sale was in one of the Go-zillion newly built neighborhoods in South Asheville plus we got there a little late so it was pretty picked over but I came away with something pretty cool.
The top was scratched up and it was missing one of the knobs but overall I was super excited about this console table. So last Thursday it was like 57 degrees when I got home from my day job so I jerked this thing out in the driveway and sanded the top off as fast as I could.
I love these little pegs!
They add some interest to the pine top.
This past weekend Big Daddy and I made plans to have NO plans. The weather forecast cooperated. It was cold and windy with snow showers predicted. Truly, that’s our favorite Winter weekend weather, so we spent the weekend at home . . . . in our feety pajamas.
Turns out to be the perfect outfit for painting furniture!
Fifteen bucks.
Let’s start with the paint.
Back in the Summer I made a custom off-white out of two colors of Americana Decor chalk paint. I painted this sideboard we dug out of a barn with it.
It’s a really warm white, quite similar to Annie Sloan Old White. In fact, it looks just like it. I was working on the console table in my dining room right next to my table and chairs that are painted in Old White and Big Daddy could not tell the difference.
This is not an exact formula but it’s about 4-5 parts Americana Decor Everlasting to 1 part Primitive.
For the top I just used Annie Sloan dark wax. It’s become my go to. I keep meaning to try to make a gray wax out of clear wax and one of the grays like French Linen but keep forgetting to try it.
The cup pulls I dug out of my knob & pull stash and I had enough paint already mixed to do the complete project so I spent the $15 on the table and that’s it.
When I am home she is my shadow day and night. At night she sleeps on my head. For twelve years. She is a monkey mess, that girl!
So’s her Mama.
Painting and photo styling is hard work for a little furry girl.
I’m beginning to compile a collection things for my Spring booth move. I’m hoping to get closer to the front of the store. I’m also thinking about doing at least one Spring Market. I’ll probably store this piece till then. I’ve been rolling Spring colors and decor around in my crazy little head. Lots goes on in there.
And I’m thinking blues & greens.

That DOES it! We're kind of in a winter funk here & my husband said just yesterday, "I need to get a new project!"
That table is sweet – REALLY sweet. Wonder WHERE we can find something – TODAY?!?

May I suggest Craigslist. As cold as it is the seller should be motivated to bargain. Happy hunting!!!

Beautiful table makeover. I love the dark wax. I'll have to look into that. Wax is one of my favorite finishes.

Nicely done Paige!
I am in LOVE with this makeover! You did such a great job on it. Love how you simply sanded the top off and gave it a new finish. Thanks for sharing how you did it, because if I ever find something similar that needs some loving, I will definitely be referring to your post (and perhaps asking you an extra question or two). 🙂
I'm featuring your post today at #TALENTEDTuesday, thanks for linking up!
Cheers,
AJ
