My little shop at Sweeten Creek Antiques is thriving, I’m quite happy to say! I drive by there at least four times during the work week and every time I pop in to straighten up my little space there are multiple holes where things used to be. It makes me grin from ear to ear!
One of the most popular items in my shop so far are, of all things lamps. This sort of surprised me because they are not an inexpensive thing. I am currently working on my sixth pair to take down there this weekend. These will fill a hole ( or two ) on top of one of my dressers. I thought today I would share with y’all the process it takes for me to rev up a pair of castoff, garage sale, 1970’s . . . I could honestly go on and on. My point being, don’t walk past a $5 pair on a Saturday morning!
So here goes .
Three weekends ago I had the worst
luck at thrifting that I can remember. I was on the prowl for small side tables and couldn’t find anything. Plus I got lost and missed out on a church yard sale so I was particularly pissed. I got there eventually but the place was almost picked clean. Probably by a few other lunatics, just like myself.
I did find a pair of these though :
Six bucks for the pair.
So I went with a nice darker gray chalk paint to replace the pair I had on the light gray dresser in my shop.
Americana Decor Relic.
And off I went!
See the finished one in the background? That took three costs. I let them dry over night and then touched up a few missed spots, let them sit till the next morning and gave them both a good coat of clear wax. A word of GOOD advise, when painting brass, remove your rings. They will nick up the finish.
The big hang up was finding the perfect shades for these. I bought and returned two other sets of shades before I settled on a pair of oatmeal linen drums.
I seriously considered keeping these for our bedroom. I’m in love with the combination. Also, these lamps are substantial. They would be perfect for a higher bed.
Love the deep charcoal color!
Sweeten Creek Antiques will be having a BIG Thanksgiving Weekend Sale with over thirty vendors participating and I’m one of them. Everything in my personal shop will be 15% off!
I’ll be post more new additions to my shop later in the week .

I love how you updated the lamps. I usually walk by the lamps when I am out thrifting. No longer. And that is wonderful that your shop is doing so well.
