It’s looking a lot like Autumn in these mountains!
So I take the scenic route whenever I can. I feel incredibly lucky to live in a place where you can take the Blue Ridge Parkway from one side of the city to the other.
It’s my favorite time of year!
Have you seen the pillow covers made out of men’s shirts all over Blogland? I love ‘Pillow Covers’ anyway for the simple fact that if you shop the remanent pile and can sew a strait line, you’ve got a whole new look for your home for a few bucks. Plus, they are washable/cleanable which is a major bonus at my house because we have pets.
So here’s the old shirt I chose:
Dark brown with a light blue plaid .
The first thing I did was cut off each arm. This left me with quite a good sized piece of fabric!
In fact, I’m pretty sure you could get two pillows out of this Large sized shirt.
Second, I positioned my lumbar pillow insert and I cut the shirt to fit.
For this lumbar pillow I specifically wanted the buttons to be horizontal, not vertical. Next, I put the right sides together and sewed all four sides together.
Lastly, unbutton, turn right side out , stuff and rebutton .
Easiest pillow cover EVER!
I see a lot of possibilities here. Especially in a little boy’s bedroom, porch or cabin by a lake. Mostly, I could kick my own butt for all those $.50 men’s shirts I’ve passed up all Summer at yard sales !
Happy Autumn,
Paige

Very thrifty! Love your pillow it turned out really nice. I've been thinking of making a couple pillows from old blue jeans but I may look at the thrift store first. Thanks for sharing.

Love this idea! My youngest son wears oxford style shirts every day and at 13, outgrows them quickly. I have a bag full of shirts and they would make great throw pillows for his room! Have a great week!

What a clever idea! I would have never thought that came from a shirt! Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial at Talented Tuesday.
