One year and seven months ago I did not realize it but I was about to began an amazing adventure. I had lost my Mother just three months prior and I was certainly struggling. My brain was so busy . Busy and loud. And I could not make it hush, no matter what I did. Then I did something so small. Insignificant, really. Early one March morning I sat cross legged in the kitchen floor with a mug of coffee and a wreck of a chair in front of me.
And I dipped a brush into a can of white paint.
And my brain stilled.
It took me weeks but I worked my way through five of those chairs as well as a large dining table.
By then I was sleeping better. My concentration had improved and I could actually sit and watch a movie. Something about spending an hour or two at the time mindlessly wielding a two inch Purdy angled sash brush allowed my cluttered brain to slowly work out the problems of my little world.
Therapeutic, to say the least.
Over the next year along with my friend/ buisness partner Lisa, I honed my painting and picking skills by well, painting and picking. Lisa and I did two very successful sales here at my home (August and October) and then took our act on the road for a two day Vintage Market in South Carolina in March . Fresh off the success of this, I signed up for another one a little closer to home in May. Lisa declined. I was absolutely scared to death to do that Market by myself. I really thought I would throw up before the gates even opened . I’m am not at all kidding y’all. Well, it turned out to be my biggest one yet! I sold almost everything I brought! Two months later,
I became a solo act. Peoples lives take them in different directions sometimes, and I totally respect that. That’s exactly how I ended up here. For Lisa, it meant spending more time with family, her grandchildren. And I applaud that!
So I moved forward over the Summer, painting and selling my pieces via my Facebook page, word of mouth or Craig’s List, continuing to build a steady, solid customer base, the Facebook page and this blog. Also, new friendships ALL OVER the place! I am sooo enjoying this ride!
But not the mess.
I have gotten so very tired of the mess that comes with the ride. And, never being able to park in my garage. Sound familiar? So, Big Daddy and I made the decision, laying on the beach in Mexico last week, that is was time to move my act into an actual brick and mortar structure. Mostly, so I can park in the garage during the cold Winter months. And, to reach a different and bigger market, in terms of sales. I love doing shows and Markets but it is alot of pressure beforehand and exhausting the week after.
So, having said all of this I’m REALLY excited! Big Daddy moved me into my new booth today! The weather here in Asheville NC was uncooperative to say the least. It was a Monsoon !!! I’ll be moving a couple more big pieces in next week, hopefully. But for now here’s a peak my new ‘shop’!
It’s a tiny little space, just 10 x 10 but I love it ! I can not wait to fill it up and decorate seasonally!
This chair I picked up just this morning at a charity benifit sale. It’s the oddest thing but I really like it. I’ve never seen another one like it. If any of y’all have, I’d love to hear any info you’ve got about.
I’ll be back in a few days with more / better pictures and a furniture make over or several. Right now I’m just trying to finish up a few more lamps, pillows and chalk boards for those bare walls!
Enjoy your weekend,
Paige
