Back in May me and Big Daddy built this:
I loved this thing!
I found this on our local Craig’s List Free section. Fact. It was about three miles from my house out on the curb in a pile of someone else’s trash. I thought I would NEVER get off work before another nut came along and grabbed it!

I got my neighbor Mark to use his chop saw and cut the footboard in half and then it took months for Big Daddy to embrace my plans for this project.
Understatement.
But he was so proud of our finished product! We really bonded, creatively over this project. And after 26 years together, I was amazed that we could get any closer. I mean, we are already joined at the hip! We are a prime example of what happens when you marry your best friend and then don’t have kids. You become each others everything.
This was also my very first Milk Paint project.
And I was instantly hooked.
A few weeks ago one of the girls at work gave me a local little independent newspaper with a article earmarked for me.
Yep. I entered it in a contest.
What in the world was I thinking??? Then I forgot about it.
Seriously.
I was sitting on the Tarmac at Charlotte Douglas airport on Labor Day Monday waiting to get home to Asheville when I thought, ‘wonder what ever happened with that contest?’. So, while I had nothing but time, I pulled up Habitat For Humanity Asheville’s website and there it was! My bench. In their Ad!!!
I squealed on the plane!
Here’s the link to the contest

I’m #24 among over thirty VERY talented and creative people. Right now, I’m in second place. I’m trying so hard to not get too excited! Please go and check these folks out! And if you think my project is worthy, I’d really appreciate your vote! You can vote once per day and voting ends on September 18th.
Thanks Y’all!
Paige
