Honestly, Big Daddy can be such a Big Weirdo. Like when I drag some crazy piece of furniture home and I don’t ‘prep’ him before he sees it.
Today’s case I point
He went nuts.
I made the mistake of asking him if I could duck in our Salvation Army Home Store on our way out to lunch back in the winter. He said something like, “Well Paigey, you’ve finally lost it. That thing looks like something out of a 1970s . . . .”
And it went on from there.
I had fabric picked out for it and everything! So it sat out in the garage for months, till last weekend. I mentioned a few posts ago that I’ve been having quite the dry spell when it comes to finding pieces to paint so I went out there and dug this ottoman out to recover and paint. You guessed it, using what I had on hand.
This color is the same mix I used on the Ethan Allen sideboard we dug out of that barn. It’s a custom blend of Americana Decor chalk paint, about five parts Primative to one part Everlasting. It combines to be a lovely off white.
It took about two coats to cover this dark wood to the degree I was going for.
I have a pretty good stash of fabric. I chose something fairly neutral but bold in pattern. I thought it might jazz this thing up a bit. I used the same ottoman slipcover tutorial that you can find over at dearlillie.com.
Here’s what I did.
First I layed the fabric out on the ottoman and centered the pattern, and
I trimmed it to fit. Next I put a pin in the center so that when I flipped the fabric over it would make it easy to center it again.
Next, I pinned down each corner exactly were I wanted to sew the seams to make it fit snug. All that’s left at this point is to sew the corner seams.
When you turn it right side out you’ve got a slipcover.
I’m really happy with how this came out! And it does look great with our slipcovered chair.
As I’m whirling around the living room taking and styling these pictures, trying to capture what little good light I had left, Big Daddy was lurking about.
And he ALWAYS asks the same question.
“Is this for sale or for keep, Paigey?”
Why ???
He wants to KEEP it!!!!!!
Lord.
I would have gone with a different fabric!
Wish me good yard sale luck this weekend,
Paige

Love your "relic" Paige! ha ha you give me the giggles. You gave this piece such a update it doesn't even look like the same piece. I don't blame him for wanting to keep it. It's totally fantastic! CoCo

I love how your footstool/ottoman turned out! Great colours! I've done the same. I love sitting with my feet up but don't like the look of a lot of ottomans out there. So we redo our own! Visiting from Grace at Home. Good luck at your yard sale! Diane

How interesting that you used a slipcover instead of reupholstering the whole thing….smart! Love the fabric. It looks great with the chair.

I laughed throughout the whole post … not about the project, but about your husband! He sounds just like mine! Especially the question about "is this for us to keep or sell" …
