We have amazing friends and family. They all have been amazing from jump but over the past year I have absolutely been blown away by the support they have given me and this (yet another) hair-brained adventure. Even my 83 year Dad is calling me about stuff he sees on the side of the road. He draws the line at actually getting out of the car and checking said junk over, but still. Where I’m concerned, he’s all in!
I get calls and texts pretty regularly from friends and coworkers about stuff I might be interested in as well.
Today’s case in point
Our sweet friend Angie sent these photos to me in the Spring and I jumped on it! My friend Tanya, the one whose in denial, had been on the hunt for a desk for her son’s room and this would fit that bill.
This mission style deck was pretty beat up, especially the top.
Not a problem
My standard MO on a wooden furniture top is to sand them down with my orbital (best $40 I ever spent). This is a fruitwood top, much like butchers block. The finish is just AS dark wax and now it is gorgeous! Much better than scuffed up orange!
The color was out of my control, Tanya wanted it painted in black chalk paint to match other painted pieces in her son’s room.
And it took about three coats.
Nobody is more surprised than me.
I got lucky for a change with the hardware. It came with two perfect wrought iron pulls. They fit this piece so perfectly.
I really can’t believe what people throw away sometimes.
I have to give Big Daddy some photo cred. All of the things I used to style this very masculine desk belong to him.
He smiled really big like a cat when I passed through the living room carring this stuff, all like ‘Oh now you want to borrow MY crap!’
Yes sir. I sure do.
This letter was given my husband by my Uncle Mike ( Hi Unkie Mike!!). He was serving in Vietmam when I was born.
And we love him dearly!
Do you think a teenage boy will like it?
His Mom sure does!
Have a good week,
Paige

Paige that desk looks amazing! I am always surprised when furniture takes more than one coat too:). So funny that you have people looking for pieces for you to redo. Thanks so much for taking the time to link up with Dream. Create. Inspire. Link. Have a great weekend and take care, Tara

You did an amazing job fixing this desk up! It is very cute, and yes-quite masculine.

I love when family members call me about stuff on the curb, I don't, however, like it when they pick it up for me, and I definitely don't want it (like my dad has done). Either way, though, the support is awesome, and I'm glad they told you about this desk, because it looks great now!
