Finally!
I’m about to give y’all the skinny on that cutie of a desk I picked up almost a month ago at my all time favorite hunting ground . . . a church yard sale!
Just to refresh your memory, this is what it looked like when I got it home.
For $15!
The weird part is I had been going back and forth with a lady on Craig’s List for about a week on a desk almost just like this one and I was planning on pulling the trigger on that deal the same day I found the one above. Not only did I find this little jewel but I saved myself $25.
First, I spent a few days deliberating on a color. I knew the desk would be going in our kitchen to replace the bakers rack that I had grown tired of years ago so I had narrowed the color field down to two: black or Old White.
I chose Amy Howard Black. It’s my favorite of all the blacks I’ve tried so far.
Next I went to work sanding the top off with my orbital sander. Bid Daddy was in the house but I was technically unsupervised. Again.
Personally, I think it’s when I do my best work. And use the most Bandaids, incidentally.
Next came my version of a Tack Cloth. I use a leaf blower.
Fact.
And one coat of Early American stain, wiped on and wiped off fast!
Then a good AS clear wax job and I let it cure for a few day out in the Rat Hole, also know as my side of the garage. Can any of us in the craft park in our garages, I ask you??
Here we are now!
I am quite pleased with how it turned out! I LOVE the little French desk in black and would do it again in a heartbeat.
I do not love it for this particular space. Not in my kitchen, plus I think it needs to be a tad bit taller. With wider drawer space, to hide all my crap.
Alas . . . The search continues.
But I am enjoying this jewel for now!
Paige
