On our way to Greer, SC we managed to hit a junk shop or two. One was definitely right up our alley. You know the kind: old, kinda run down little house on the side of the road, stuff EVERYWHERE!! So we diverted from our printed out Mapquested directions, crossed three lanes of traffic and parked (illegally) at an H&R Block. Sound familiar? We could have stayed in there for HOURS, if we’d had the time. As it was, we had already forfieited our dinner & the beer I wanted. This is what I left with.
Pretty rough. Even for $9. This time I did NOT sit and bond with or stew over the peice. Neither was going to make it any less rough. I did love the little turned legs though. So I thought ‘just go with it!’ I knew I wanted to do a fair amount of distressing to this already distressed table and show a couple of layers of color in the process. I started with this.
You get it at Michael’s and with a couple of coupons (40% + an extra 20%) I payed less than $4. The color is called Treasure. I have used this paint before in a different color and I really like it in both ease of application and coverage. Plus, the whole coupon thing and Michael’s is about 6 minutes from my driveway.
Then I layered on ASCP in Duck Egg, my personal favorite!
Next I decided to try a dab of dark wax on a small section of a leg . Straight, no clear wax applied first. Then I used a very fine sandpaper.
And I was in love!
I really love the way that teal color peeks through! The dark wax tones it down just enough.
The butterfly print is a $3 thrift store find!
In my opinion, the top was kinda cool on its own. I just sealed it with a good coat of dark wax.
Worth every bit of the nine bucks! This one is going in the Spring Junkchicks Sale pile!
