Our guest room is probably my favorite room in the whole house.
I love to go in here on my days off and read or take naps with the cats. The former usually precipitates the latter. It is by far their favorite napping spot.
I am very happy with the combination of bedding elements in this bedroom. To say it evolved over time is an understatement. About three-plus years ago when I first discovered Blogland I stumbled (literally) upon Savvy Southern Style blog. It became the very first blog that I visited every day. I still do. At that particular time Kim had her master bed made up in a very similar fashion, and I never forgot it.
The bed itself we got when we moved into our first home in 1991. The coverlet is 15 years old. I have several of these matelasse coverlets and they have all held up really well. I wash them frequently (because of the pet hair) and throw them right in the dryer.
The buffalo check duvet is newer. We got it at the BIG Ikea in Charlotte NC this past Summer.
I don’t think Big Daddy will ever stick so much as a toe in an Ikea again for the rest of his life. All the way back home I worried that the big RED comforter I was going to stuff in that duvet, the second I hit the door, would show through it. Then I would be stuck either driving myself back down to Charlotte or looking at a mess while I waited for Hell to freeze over.
I was in luck! The fabric was heavy enough to completely cover up the red of the comforter and looked great! It also came with two pillow shams (bonus!). The duvet set comes in several different colors. I REALLY had my eye on the gray.
IKEA
I am sort of kicking this around in my head for a mini Master re do.

I’ve seen them all over Blog Land. I just love buffalo check! You can definately add that to my Problems List.
I got the white linen pillow & the down insert for it also while we were there at Ikea. Come to think of it, the pillow department may have been the thing that pushed Big Daddy over the edge.
I was interrupting little Emmitt’s nap time when I was photographing this room. He does not appreciate good natural light.
The chair I added this week. I bought it off a Facebook yard sale page for $15. If you have these in your area use them. It really beats the heck out of using up half a Saturday on a crap shoot.
This is what it looked like when I got it.
Cute little Parson’s chair, red ticking stripe and MAN did it stink! It spent three days out on my front porch in freezing temps before I could stand to drive it to an upholstery shop. Rule #1.
If it stinks, keep walking.
Alas, I did not.
I went with a tan and white herringbone tweed that I found at Joann’s Fabrics. I was trying HARD to stick to a tiny budget because I knew I wanted to have the chair recovered professionally.
This is what i wanted.

So I went in the store armed to the teeth. With coupons.
This is what I got.
It was originally 34.99 per yard. Not gonna happen on the budget in my head. Or ever, really for something Emmitte will use more that anyone else in the house. So on that day it was on sale 40% off. Still I winced! Then the nice lady at the cutting table tapped her finger on a tiny sign that informed me to text the word ‘coupon’ to the company & I would get an extra 30% off . My fingers flew! Do the math. $10.50 per yard! I needed 5 yards.
Done.
The little lamp I got at GW for $4 and painted it in Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg. The linen shade you may remember I found at Walmart.
The aqua toile fabric I got at Hobby Lobby in South Carolina last fall when we were vacationing on the coast. Lord! I wish we had a Hobby Lobby here, or at least a little closer. The closest one is in Greenville SC, about 45 minutes from my home. We go there fairly regularly (together) because I make a deal with the devil. You see, there is a Harley dealership five minuets down the street, on Chrome Drive. Works EVERY time.
I still have some tweaking to do like adding something cool & weighty to the other bedside table and artwork, but I am really happy so far. I truly prefer a collected look that evolves over time. I just gotta pry that cat out of that chair!

What a gorgeous room! I've seen that check from Ikea used in so many different rooms and it's always wonderful. I really like the accessories in this room too.

Thank you so much! My ONLY criticism of IKEA is that it's 2+ hours away. Bummer.

You are so welcome. Please come back to visit. IKEA ships. I wanted to get a sofa from them but it will be WAY more economical to drive to Charlotte 2-2 1/2 hours.
