Oh, my mantel! It vexes me! Since the day I became a homeowner I have had a mantel and it has been source of great frustration . . . Until recently. And all I can say about that is thank God for Pinterest! I am serious. If that is not a gift from God for a nut like me, I don’t know what is. My mantel is weird. It is too wide. You could chop a foot and a half off each end and it would be perfect. I have spent entire DAYS just swapping stuff out around the house and have still been mad. The beauty of Pinterest is it understands me. And my crazy brain. My madness. No matter what I type in the search box on Pinterest it yields results.
One of my friends has this expression. If someone she’s acquainted with is really creative or throws herself into a decorating project or posts a gob of pictures of her latest styling triumph on Facebook, she will say, “You know so-and-so? She has what you have.” She is referring to our Crazy. She has it too. She is just in denial.
So today as I was cleaning my butt off I kept eyeing that mantel with its huge Christmas wreath STILL on it. Yes I am aware of the date. So when I got back from running my Friday errands, I pitched that wreath off the deck. It’s rainy and icy, I will get it up tomorrow. Then I began to collect things from other rooms. I love the ‘use what you have’ philosophy.
So first I dug the bird cage out of the pile of leftovers from the Fall Junkchick sale. I got it at a church yard sale for $3! I can not swear it will go back in the pile. I love it! We have a thing for antique book around Casa del Davis, so a grabbed a few of those, keeping with browns.
And you know I just happened to have a chalkboard laying in the Spring Sale pile. A Valentines one, no less.
I’m pretty happy! It didn’t take all that long and I did not distroy the house in the process. That may be a first around here.
Have a great weekend!
