About a month ago I was reading through Ads on Craigslist like my life depended on it when I ran across this beauty .
After a brief negotiation via text, the next day I picked it up on my lunch hour. I was sooooo excited! I have to tell y’all, most of the stuff I drag home needs work, and by ‘work’ I really mean it’s all to hell. God bless Big Daddy and my neighbor Mark. They both work tirelessly to try to fix the crap I find.
And I love’em dearly for it.
While we are on the subject of my neighborhood, I have a TON of support here. Wendy, Mark, Dean , Donna, Chris and Shannon all look out for me and help me whenever I need it.
Example: I checked the mailbox on my way home last week and found a box of brushed nickel pulls in there from Wendy.
Now, that’s a friend!
Ok back to the story.
This probably early 1900’s chest of drawers was actually in really good shape, which is a luxury I seldom can afford. I spent a little more than my current Max Buy In but in this case it was absolutely worth every dime.
The only problem was color.
I couldn’t decide on one.
So the chest has sat in my garage for the past three weeks. . . .
Just waiting for me, The Dingbat to be inspired. So I went straight to the place where all Dingbat’s get inspired.
Pinterest
No luck.
So, as my brain began to churn away, two words came to mind:
General Finishes
I have read these two words in Blogland for a few years now and not haphazardly either. It seems to be in the arsenal of some pretty talented furniture painters.
Not only did I have no idea that we actually had a dealer in town, as it turns out the dealer is no more than 5 minutes from my driveway. Honest to God, sometimes I do not know what is going on in my little head.
Big Daddy says he doesn’t either.
Now that can says Milk Paint, but I swear this stuff behaves like a Chalk Paint .
This paint is the closest thing to one coat coverage I’ve see yet. It covers beautifully. It glides on smooth and leaves very few brush marks. Plus, at $10 for a pint, I’m in 🙂 I used less than a third of that can on this project.
The porcelain knobs are from Hobby Lobby, $2 each at 50% off.
The antique brass pulls I actually found on Amazon for less than $2 each. They came in a set of 10 with free shipping! I am not a fan of gold hardware but I’m really loving this finish with the rich, dark gray.
The top of the chest had several scratches and a couple burn marks but every bit of that sanded out with my orbital and 80 grit sandpaper.
I finished the top of the chest with my standard finish, Annie Sloan dark wax only.
One or two more .
I left with two pints of paint when I got this one. I’ll be back later in the week with the other color.
Have a great week!
Paige

Jennie it's over there off Rutledge rd. At a woodworking shop. You turn off airport rd by the Sonic. The next time you are home drive over and pick up the color cards.

I'm about to jump on the General finishes bandwagon too! And CL is my addiction. Why on Earth would anyone walk into a furniture store and buy new, cheaply made stuff? Great turn out!
